Features in the Works

Auto-Triggers

When going out, set physical boundaries (such as a section of the campus) on the app. Using a combination of AI and location data, an auto-response for help will be triggered if you are identified to be in a risky-situation.

Separation from Groups

When going out with friends, if CrowdMe detects you being separated or moving away from friends (especially in a car), additional help will be triggered.

Walking Buddy

While walking alone, especially when it is dark, CrowdMe will try to locate fellow pedestrians to walk with.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I call for help?

People you have added to your BFF list and other same-genedered users of the app nearby are notified of your request for help. Those responding to your call for help will be guided to your location via Google maps (integrated into the app). You may also track their approach via Google maps.

What happens when I track my location?

Your location is tracked and saved in our database. This data is available for 72 hours. You may review this via Past Requests menu option. If you choose to save the data (within 72 hours), this data is available to you till you delete the same. Otherwise the data will be deleted after 72 hours.

How do I track an unsafe route?

Under the maps tab, simply click on the tag icon. You can either mark a specific location as unsafe and flag the reason, or you can mark the entire route as unsafe. This can be shared with friends to let others know of unsafe areas.

How can I help others?

On the home screen of the app, tap the upward looking arrow at the bottom of the screen. It will allow you to "Join the Crowd" (for 90 minutes at a time). You will receive a notification (along with location and navigation info) when someone within a mile of your current location seeks assistance. You may "Leave the Crowd" anytime to stop receiving notifications.

Why don't I see all my Facebook friend?

Due to recent Facebook restrictions, you can add only those Facebook friends who have already installed the CrowdMe app to their mobile device. If you do not see the Facebook friends you want to add to your Safety Squad, invite them to download CrowdMe app. After they install the app, you will be able to add them to your Safety Squad.

Why do you delete all data after 72 hours?

The primary goal of the app is to ensure that no one in a vulnerable position is exploited. A person may be drunk or near drunk, but we want to encourage and enable such a person to seek help from others. We want people to use the app without having to worry about the volume of previous calls being held against them. Our aim is to promote a safe environment, free of sexual harassment and assault.

Our Story

One in five women are sexually assaulted during their undergraduate career. While many resources are currently available to help survivors heal, many viable solutions do not exist for assault prevention itself. CrowdMe was born from this idea of leveraging technology to help with sexual assault prevention. So please, join the Crowd, and let's make our favorite places more safe, inclusive, and enjoyable for all.
